Our Mission
Cathedral Hill & Friends was created to celebrate and share the remarkable story of Cathedral Hill, St. Paul, Minnesota. We believe this neighborhood — with its stunning architecture, vibrant dining scene, rich cultural life, and deep historical roots — deserves to be better known and appreciated.
Our goal is to provide visitors, residents, and anyone curious about this special place with a comprehensive, engaging guide to everything Cathedral Hill has to offer. As our name suggests, we plan to expand our coverage to include neighboring areas and friends of Cathedral Hill in the future.
The Neighborhood
Cathedral Hill is a historic neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota, named after the magnificent Cathedral of Saint Paul that crowns its highest point. The neighborhood is roughly bounded by Interstate 94 to the south, Lexington Parkway to the west, University Avenue to the north, and John Ireland Boulevard to the east.
The area encompasses several overlapping historic districts, including the Summit Avenue Historic District, the Ramsey Hill Historic District, and portions of the Historic Hill District. Together, these districts contain one of the most remarkable collections of preserved Victorian and early 20th-century residential architecture in the United States.
Key commercial corridors include Selby Avenue, which runs east-west through the heart of the neighborhood, and Grand Avenue, which borders the southern edge and offers one of the Twin Cities' premier shopping and dining experiences.
Getting Here
By Car
Cathedral Hill is easily accessible from I-94 (exit at Dale St or Marion St). Street parking is available throughout the neighborhood. Several paid lots are near the Cathedral and along Grand Avenue.
By Transit
Metro Transit bus routes serve the neighborhood along Selby Avenue, Grand Avenue, and Dale Street. The Green Line light rail stops at several stations near the neighborhood's northern edge.
By Bike
Summit Avenue has an excellent bike path running its full 4.5-mile length. Nice Ride bike-share stations are located throughout the neighborhood. Bike racks are available at most destinations.
Community
Cathedral Hill is served by several active community organizations that work to preserve the neighborhood's character, support local businesses, and build connections among residents. The neighborhood's strong sense of community is one of its greatest assets.
