Ordway Center for the Performing Arts
A premier performing arts center featuring world-class music, theater, and dance performances.
The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is one of the premier cultural venues in the Upper Midwest. Located in downtown Saint Paul near Rice Park, the Ordway presents a year-round program of music, theater, and dance that draws audiences from throughout the Twin Cities region and beyond.
The center features two performance spaces: the Music Theater, which seats 1,900, and the intimate McKnight Theater, which accommodates about 300. The Music Theater is home to the renowned Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, one of America's finest chamber ensembles, and also hosts touring Broadway productions, opera, dance companies, and visiting musical artists.
The building itself, designed by architect Benjamin Thompson, opened in 1985 and features a distinctive glass-enclosed lobby that glows warmly on performance evenings. The acoustics in both halls are exceptional, making the Ordway a favorite among performers and audience members alike.
The Ordway's programming spans classical and contemporary works, reflecting a commitment to both preserving the performing arts tradition and supporting new creative voices. Educational programs and community outreach initiatives extend the center's impact beyond the stage.
